As we’re gearing up for our launch and the new year, we thought it would be fair to explain why we’re building flipsite, and what we think is wrong with website builders on the market.

We love the internet and the web. But the websites have become Flash sites (some of you old enough, still remember Macromedia Flash right…?). Websites should be flashy, good looking, convey your brand especially in consumer facing brands, but website builders of today don’t support this without a) taking over browser native functions like scrolling functions and b) slowing down the website by adding new javascript upon react and vue code and div inside div. And it just slows down the overall experience.

This is more true with legacy website editors such as Wordpress (20 years of age and legacy, will do what age did to Mike Tyson) but it’s also an afterthought in website builders we otherwise look up to, like Framer and Webflow. These website builders boast about Lighthouse scores of 100%, but they fail to mention it’s mostly only for technical SEO and not speed. Or then they say it’s for speed but themselves only score subpar on their own site.

Flipsite’s website builder is built from the ground up for building GREAT WEBSITES. It’s built in two steps: There’s a website builder which we believe needs to have the best looking sections and components and it needs to be snappy to use. But it also needs a CMS, preferably one that’s separated so that when you update your address in one place, it’s reflected on all sites!

We think Wordpress is a good Website Editor, but scores low on being a Website Designer of any kind. But Framer and Webflow have mastered the Website Designer part! It’s intuitive, it combines design work with structural work and they are generally snappy to use.

All of the above, however, fail on what is most important: Building websites customers can and want to use.

Framer scores poorly on all test with only 42% on performance, on its own flagship site framer.com

Webflow scores 100% on SEO but only 35% on Google PageSpeed performance, on its own flagship site.

Flipsite scores 100% on all other Google PageSpeed metrics, and 99% on the performance test, due to its highly optimized real-time compiler.

The second step, and the most important one at that, is that there’s a real-time compiler – this is the key in building the end-result. Every change you do, automatically in milliseconds compiles to HTML+CSS+Javascript and the canvas you draw upon is exactly that end-result. And the compiler is where the magic happens.

The compiler makes sure the HTML is human readable. It makes sure the HTML includes ARIA tags. It makes sure to inline all CSS. It lazily loads all scripts. It removes CSS selectors that aren’t needed on a particular page. I shortens the CSS selectors or even the HTML for minimizing the payload between the server and the client. It is the secret of delivering end-results that work on old Android phones over 3G connections.

The compiler is the key in having a website that works for the bottom 99% of users that don’t use an M4 iMac to browse the web.

In 2025 we will launch flipsite. Before that you can grab a lifetime license for free by signing up. And join us on Discord or Facebook messenger to give feedback and ask questions.
